Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson dissed Travis Kelce’s romance with Taylor Swift while celebrating the Philadelphia Eagles dominating win over the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2025 Super Bowl.
On Monday morning, the 27-year-old athlete seemingly implied that Kelce, 35, fumbled his ex-girlfriend Kayla Nicole, which he insinuated contributed to their loss.
“Should’ve stayed w that thick s****,” he wrote atop an in-game picture of him and Kelce on his Instagram Story.
Hours later, Gardner-Johnson seemingly confirmed he was taking a swipe at Swift by reposting an image of Nicole posing in a bikini alongside his original post.
However, the defensive player, who is known for his trash talk, deleted the repost amid mounting backlash for body-shaming the pop star, 35.
Kelce dated Nicole, 33, on and off for five years before breaking up for good in May 2022. While the influencer has shared insight into her romance with the NFL star, Kelce rarely makes comments about their relationship.
Although they were together when Kelce won his first Super Bowl, he was single when they won again in 2023 and dating Swift during last year’s winning match-up against the San Francisco 49ers.
The three-time Super Bowl Champion began dating the Grammy winner around July 2023 and the pair have been going strong ever since.
However, both women were in the crowd for Sunday’s big game, with Swift sitting in a suite alongside Kelce’s family and friends while Nicole cheered from a different spot in the stands.
While the “Fortnight” singer rooted for the Chiefs, Nicole proudly supported the men in green.
The “Special Forces” star posted a video chanting the Eagles fight song, joking, “Where’s the bandwagon emoji?”
She also went down to the field and celebrated in the confetti after the Eagles beat the Chiefs 40-22.
The Eagles defensive squad completely shut down the Chiefs offensive scheme, sacking quarterback Patrick Mahomes six times and forcing three turnovers.
They held Kelce to just 4 receptions for 39 yards. Despite his lackluster performance, the numbers pushed him past Jerry Rice for the most career receptions in Super Bowl history.
However, Kelce didn’t seem to care about the accomplishment as he spoke to reporters after the game.
“[We] couldn’t get it going offensively,” the teary-eyed tight end said in an X video.
“I mean, they just got after us on all three phases and then on top of that, you know, turnovers, penalties, playing behind the sticks on offense.
“We haven’t played that bad all year,” Kelce continued. “You don’t lose like that without everything going bad.”
