Euphoria fans received an exciting production update from HBO on Monday.
The network shared a picture of series star Zendaya in a social media announcement that “Season 3 is in production.” While no further details were shared about when the next installment of the HBO drama would arrive, HBO CEO Casey Bloys had revealed back in November 2023 that Euphoria would return in 2025.
The time since this announcement has been fraught with speculation, with some fans fearing the show’s cancellation amid delays and alleged conflict over scripts and reported on-set drama between Zendaya and the show’s creator, Sam Levinson. Not to mention that Season 3 was renewed back in 2022, ahead of the Season 2 finale.
Bloys confirmed to Variety in June 2024 that Levinson was “working on” Season 3, though he said the creator was having some “issues” determining when Season 3 starts, noting that Levinson didn’t “want to have it in high school anymore.”
“That’s where it was set and what made sense then,” Bloys explained to the outlet at the time. “So when you take it out of that, there’s a lot of back and forth about where to set it and how far in the future to set it and all that stuff. But I think he’s got a take that he’s excited about, and he’s busy writing.”
A July 2024 post on the show’s social media account announced that “Euphoria Season 3 will go into production in January 2025.” However, a report published by The Hollywood Reporter that same month claimed that Zendaya’s “frustration grew” in the midst of Levinson’s dedication to his short-lived series The Idol.
Zendaya’s co-star Colman Domingo shut down the alleged beef, explaining on the August 2024 episode of Andy Cohen‘s Sirius XM show Radio Andy that everyone “love[s] each other.” Meanwhile, Hunter Schafer confessed on the Call Her Daddy podcast at the time that she had “no fucking idea what’s going on” when it came to Season 3 getting off the ground.
In November of last year, Sydney Sweeney admitted to Vanity Fair that “there were definitely a few projects” she passed on because she was “supposed to be going back to Euphoria.” Variety reported in November that Bloys confirmed Euphoria Season 3’s January 2025 production timeline, as well an expected eight-season length for the show.
The first two seasons of Euphoria are now streaming in full on Max.
