If you’re struggling with today’s Connections and need some assistance, Newsweek is here to help.
The game, which was first released by The New York Times on June 12, 2023, tests users’ word knowledge and can often be tricky to solve.
Wyna Liu, puzzle editor at the NYT who helped create Connections, previously spoke out about the brainteaser’s difficulty with Newsweek.
“The game has evolved with the solvers, and responds to solvers’ experience and expectations,” she said in June, adding that she sometimes “clusters” words on the board, which may trick people into thinking they don’t belong together.
Keep scrolling for Newsweek‘s tips to beating today’s game, but be warned: The answers to #608 will be revealed at the end of this article, so if you’d like to work it out yourself, we advise you scroll carefully.
How To Play ‘Connections’
Are you new to Connections? Don’t worry, the rules of the game are rather straightforward. To start, players are given 16 words that must be grouped into categories based on a common subject matter. There are four categories—yellow, green, blue and purple—which vary in difficulty. The yellow category is considered the easiest, while purple is considered the hardest. Green and blue, meanwhile, are medium difficulty.
For example, in Friday’s puzzle, the blue category was “Associated with the Genie in Aladdin,” and the words associated with it were “blue,” “earring,” “lamp” and “wishes.”
Once you’ve selected your words, click the “Submit” button. If the answers are correct, they’ll flash in the category color and will be removed from the board. If they are incorrect, however, they will remain on the board. Occasionally, you may come across this message, “One away…” which indicates three of your words are correct, and you’re just one word away from solving the full answer.
If you’re completely stumped, perhaps clicking the “Shuffle” button will give your brain the reset it needs.
