Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

The actor who plays Dylan in Severance has commented on one of the most compelling fan theories surrounding the show.

Speaking to Newsweek, Zach Cherry shed light on Apple TV+’s psychological drama, which airs every Friday. Specifically, the theory his character’s wife is dead, and his company Lumon is lying about it

What makes it even more strange is Dylan’s innie (his underground worker who has no memory of his life on the surface) has a meeting with his ‘wife’ in episode 3 of season 2, Who is Alive? If she’s dead, it means Lumon has sent in an actor to play his wife.

“I think that’s really interesting,” Cherry says of the theory. “I think it’s a good instinct to not trust Lumon and not take what they’re saying at face value, and I do think that’s that sometimes makes it difficult to know what is real and what is not…as you watch the season you sort of you do start to figure out what is real and what isn’t.”

Later in the episode, we see Dylan’s outie interact with the same wife at home with his family, suggesting she is indeed his real wife and not an actor. Still, there’s an uneasy feeling to the whole show, as if it can unravel at any moment. For Cherry, it was a “really interesting scene” to sink his teeth into.

“It’s sort of like going on a first date with someone who you also have already been married to for a while. It’s this strange place of like, there’s this immediate comfort, but it’s also someone who you have never met or spoken to before, so that was a fun thing to play around with.”

Cherry also teased more of his character’s backstory, saying the remaining episodes of season 2 will give fans an insight into his motives. “This season we’re learning a lot more about Dylan and kind of why he might be that way,” he says of the character’s initially cold demeanor. “Over the course of the first season we watch as Dylan starts to get close to his office mates, some of those walls kind of start to come down.”

When Does Severance Season 2 Release?
