Bill Gates stopped this this morning’s episode of The View, during which he warned the co-hosts that another, “more severe” pandemic could happen in the near future.
During their conversation, co-host Sunny Hostin pointed out that Gates expressed his concern about a pandemic long before COVID-19 even happened.
“The pandemic, sadly, was fairly predictable,” Gates told the ladies at the Hot Topics table. “And it won’t be the last pandemic. The next one could be far more severe.”
Describing COVID-19 as “awful,” Gates praised President Donald Trump for getting the vaccine out quickly during his first term in the White House. When he met with the POTUS shortly before he took office for the second time, Gates said he also presented other “medical innovations,” like an “HIV cure that could be accelerated.”
But when it comes to another pandemic, Gates said we should “be more prepared” than we were in 2020.
“I’d still say that’s [the] number one [issue]. You can worry about nuclear war, you can worry about AI. There’s plenty to worry about,” he said. “It’s up to the government to think ahead on behalf of the citizens. So, a pandemic, there’s a lot that we should be doing.”
“Hopefully, we’ll get our act together before the next one comes,” he added.
So, when does he predict another pandemic could hit? According to the Microsoft co-founder, the next pandemic will surely happen within our lifetimes.
“Oh, certainly we’ll have one in the next 25 years,” he said. “There’s even some pathogens out there that we’re watching over right now. So, maybe 10% chance in the next four years.”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
