Kendrick Lamar took home a total of five Grammy Awards during the Sunday, February 2, ceremony, but his wins are not the only thing that caught the attention of fans on the internet.
Lamar, 37, who has been in a feud with Drake (real name Aubrey Drake Graham) for years, accepted his awards at the ceremony sporting a look designed by Maison Margiela that caused viewers to speculate about the true meaning behind his outfit. Fans seem to think that the denim-on-denim getup, which is commonly referred to as a “Canadian Tuxedo,” was a low-key dig at the 38-year-old Toronto native.
The rapper won the awards for Best Record and Song of the Year for “Not Like Us,” his Drake diss track that went viral in 2024. Fans of the California native took to the comment section of a video of his acceptance at the ceremony to share their thoughts on the outfit and how it relates to the feud.
“The Canadian tuxedo is a hilarious subtle jab,” wrote one fan, while a second fan pointed out, “Damn, whole damn audience chanting!!! Cali is proud of you, Kendrick!”
A third fan noted, “Drake’s diss tracks to Meek lost Grammys to Alright and To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick. 10 years later, Kendrick collects in ONE NIGHT, ONE GRAMMY OUTING the same number of total Grammys Drake has and won them for a diss track.” The same fan also added, “You can’t make up poetry this good. Add to it that the GOAT (greatest of all time) is wearing a CANADIAN TUXEDO to accept his awards. There’s levels to this s**t, and no one is on K-Dot’s [Kendrick Lamar’s] level!!”
The two rappers initially started “beefing” in 2013 after Lamar called Drake (and other rappers) out by name on Big Sean’s song titled “Control.” Since then, Drake and the “Poetic Justice” rapper have been feuding for years, with things heating up again in 2024 when the two released multiple diss tracks referencing each other.
Lamar is set to perform at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday, February 9, where the Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans, Louisiana.
