Doechii won at the 2025 Grammy Awards in the Best Rap Album category for “Alligator Bites Never Heal.”

The rap artist took the stage at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and was emotional by her triumph. Doechii is only the third female to win in the category after Lauryn Hill and Cardi B, who presented the award to her.

“I put my heart and my soul into this mixtape,” she said during her acceptance speech. “I bared my life. I went through so much. I dedicated myself to sobriety, and God told me that I would be rewarded and that he would show me just how good it can get.”

Doechii also thanked her mother, record label, and her fans. She also gave a shoutout to Tampa, Florida, calling herself a Swan Princess and adding, “Whenever people think about Florida, they only think about Miami, but Tampa has so much talent. Labels, go to Tampa.”

Doechii ended her speech with a powerful message to Black women who dream of finding success in music.

“The last thing I want to say… I know there is some Black girl out there. So many Black women out there that are watching me right now,” she said. I want to tell you, ‘You can do it. Anything is possible. Don’t allow anybody to project any stereotypes on you that tell you that you can’t be here, that you’re too dark, or that you’re not smart enough, or that you’re too dramatic, or you’re too loud.”

She continued, “You are exactly who you need to be, to be right where you are, and I am a testimony. Praise God.”
