One day before Elon Musk made headlines at President Donald Trump‘s 2025 inauguration — during which the billionaire caused an uproar over a repeated arm gesture that many compared to a Nazi salute — the SpaceX founder was in the news for a different reason: his love life.
On Sunday, January 19, at a pre-inauguration black-tie dinner, Musk, 53, was spotted chatting with his Neuralink colleague Shivon Zilis — the mother of his three youngest children. (In addition to his kids with Zilis, Musk, who is a father of 12, shares his eldest six children with first wife Justine Wilson and his other three children with singer Grimes.)
While Musk was busy rubbing elbows with other billionaires at the event — namely, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sanchez — all eyes were on Musk and Zilis’ interaction, as the two keep their exact relationship status private.
Who exactly is Zilis? The 38-year-old, who hails from Canada, is a Yale University graduate, where she studied economics and philosophy and played hockey, per a 2015 USA Today profile on the Ivy League grad.
Zilis was huge in the tech industry before even working with Musk, scoring jobs at IBM and Bloomberg before going on to work in the artificial intelligence field — joining Musk’s OpenAI in 2016 and then his Neuralink company one year later.
In 2021, the pair quietly welcomed twins Strider and Azure — information Musk did not reveal to the public until one year later. 2021 was a busy year for Musk, who also welcomed his second child with Grimes, a daughter whose nickname is “Y,” in December 2021. Zilis expanded her family with Musk in June 2024, welcoming a third child together.
While Musk and Zilis keep their personal relationship close to the vest, their pre-inauguration outing on January 19 is not the only time the two have been spotted together as of late. The twosome made a rare public appearance together in November 2024 while attending a gala together at Trump’s Mar-A-Lago estate.
