Actor Francisco San Martin, best known for his work on Days of our Lives and Jane The Virgin, has died. He was 39.
San Martin died Jan. 16 in his Los Angeles home. Deadline reports the death was ruled suicide by hanging.
Born in 1985 in Mallorca, Spain, San Martin began his career with a stint on Days of Our Lives playing Dario Hernandez, a petty thief who moved to Salem to solve a cold case.
Dario later moved to Argentina for a job, marking the end of San Martin’s time on the show in 2011. The role was later taken over by Jordi Vilasuso.
San Martin’s Days co-star Camila Banus penned a tribute to the late actor on social media after the news of his death broke.
“Pepe, what can I say but I love you and rest in peace, my friend,” she wrote, per Deadline. “Love you mucho mucho mucho; I wish I had told you more.”
Many may also recognize San Martin from his romantic role on The CW sitcom Jane the Virgin, where he played Fabian, a dreamy actor starring opposite Jane’s father, Rogelio (Jaime Camil), in a telenovela.
His character shared a brief romantic relationship with Jane before their fling ended on bad terms.
San Martin’s other acting credits include a brief stint on The Bold and the Beautiful and the 2013 Steven Soderbergh film Behind The Candelabra, starring Matt Damon and Michael Douglas.
San Martin got his start in acting as a young boy performing in children’s theater while growing up in Montana. He later moved back to Spain to pursue a career in acting and modeling, per The New York Post.
