Christopher Walken has disclosed that he receives DVDs of Severance because he lacks the necessary equipment to stream the show.

The sci-fi thriller premiered its second season on Friday (January 17) with the episode “Hello, Ms. Cobel,” directed by Ben Stiller. Picking up five months after the first season, the series is set in a mysterious company where a unique consciousness-dividing procedure separates employees’ work and personal lives.

Walken, who stars in the Apple TV+ hit, admitted in an interview on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show that he watches the series on DVD instead of using the streaming service. “I can’t. I don’t have the equipment, so they’re good enough to send me DVDs,” he shared, adding that he hasn’t seen all the episodes.

When Cohen asked if he had an Apple TV+ subscription, Walken responded, “I don’t have anything.”

Created by Dan Erickson and directed by Stiller and Aoife McArdle, Severance stars Adam Scott as Mark, an employee at Lumon Industries who undergoes a “severance” procedure to divide his work and non-work memories. The cast also includes John Turturro and Patricia Arquette.

Apple describes the second season as follows:

“In Severance, Mark Scout (Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives.

“This daring experiment in ‘work-life balance’ is called into question as Mark finds himself at the centre of an unravelling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work… and of himself. In season two, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe.”

The show has been met with widespread praise from fans, with many on social media hailing it as “peak television” and claiming it has them “locked in.”

Critics have also shown their approval, with Decider saying to STREAM IT. Reviewer Joel Keller reminded readers that “the second season of Severance promises to be even more creepy, thrilling, funny and frightening than the first, and the first season set a pretty high bar in all of those categories.

To promote the new season, a creative publicity stunt garnered attention when cast members recreated their in-show office at New York’s Grand Central Station.

New episodes of Severance will continue to air weekly on Apple TV+ from January 16 through March 21.
