Iran experts expressed extreme alarm Friday.
According to The Wall Street Journal, details emerged about President Donald Trump’s emergency escape from a missile threat during a NATO summit in Turkey.
Trump was smuggled onto a different plane in a catering container, while the press and Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent remained unknowingly vulnerable aboard the original Air Force One, reportedly accompanied by jet fighters.
U.S. officials defended the response, arguing the intelligence revealed the threat was serious enough to warrant the Secret Service’s decoy plan, according to The Wall Street Journal.
“There are also growing fears about what the maneuver reveals: an administration genuinely concerned that Iran-linked assassins could, even in a friendly nation, endanger Trump,” the outlet added.
Iran expert Holly Dagres from the Washington Institute for Near East Policy called the situation “quite extraordinary.”
And noted, “While the Trump administration touts the weakness of the Islamic Republic, its reach remains extensive enough to allegedly try and kill the most heavily protected leader in the world.”
