Drew Barrymore might not miss acting, but she’s certainly learned a lot from the movies she’s starred in.
On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Graham Norton stunned Barrymore into silence when he said she’ll only be known for being a television host someday — not her iconic movies. In the meantime, he wanted to know what movies of hers she would show people to prove she was once an actress.
“There are three that just came rushing to my head,” Barrymore said. “Charlie’s Angels, E.T., and I don’t know which one I would pick with [Adam] Sandler, but I feel like that covers the gamut.”
While E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial taught Barrymore that she could “build a family at work,” she learned something different from the three movies she did with Sandler.
“Sandler, I feel like, is emblematic of there can be romance in everything you do and it doesn’t have to be of the sexual kind,” she said. “A lot of my favorite movies are love stories that have nothing to do with sex. It can be between two men, two women, a father-daughter. Those types of movies. I feel like that’s kind of how Sandler and I are.”
As far as Charlie’s Angels goes, Barrymore said, “Girls should be able to do everything boys do without taking boys down and hating on them. I love men. Men can do what women do. Girls should do what boys do. Equality is so important to me.”
Unfortunately, Barrymore has no plans to return to Hollywood anytime soon.
“Not at all. Not even a little,” she told Norton when he asked how much she missed acting.
“I have to be my kids’ mom right now. My kids need me too much. I need to be there for them,” she continued. “This is a really normal schedule. When you go and do a film, you don’t know where you’ll be for those three to six months, literally geographically and even if someone’s like, ‘Where are you gonna be 4 a.m. on Thursday?’ You’re like, ‘I don’t know!’”
Barrymore added, “I haven’t missed it but there are things around that make me raise an eyebrow. That’s all I’ll say.”
