Phaidon is tapping into the marvelous world of MSCHF for its next hardcover offering. What the publisher is referring to as an “irreverent guide to the inner workings” of the Lukas Bentel and Kevin Wiesner-founded art collective, Made by MSCHF compiles twelve case studies and never-before-seen behind-the-scenes imagery in the first-ever extensive – 384 pages, to be exact – look into the Brooklyn-based entity.

“MSCHF, as a practice and as an entity, manifests the ambition for a creative entity to wield tangible cultural power as measured against that of world-straddling companies, celebrities, and media entities,” the brand wrote in an Instagram caption revealing the book’s release. “MSCHF has always been best defined by what it makes; it was created to be a series of projects. Made by MSCHF is a peek behind the curtain, a look at the nuts & bolts, and an attempt to convey the gestalt of MSCHF’s working model.”

MSCHF’s founders Bentel and Wiesner write a significant portion of the book, with additional contributions from Karen Wong and complementary text by Amy Adler, Lauren Boyle, Maurizio Cattelan, Blake Gopnik, Natasha Jen, Sean Monahan and Lydia Pang.

Structured around twelve case studies – Severed Spots (2020), Tax Heaven 3000 (2022), Key4All (2019) and, of course, Big Red Boots (2023) included – that exemplify the ethos of the ever-so memorable MSCHF; case studies are then split into two main sections “Absurd Systems” and “Absurd Objects.” Phaidon also chronicles MSCHF’s 200-plus releases from the past five years.

The book runs for $79.95 USD and is available to pre-order now at Phaidon’s official website with shipping expected on or around March 6.
