JR Motorsports is hinting at a major announcement that could see them attempt to qualify for the next Daytona 500 by entering the NASCAR Cup Series.
Tomorrow afternoon is when the big reveal is expected, according to Adam Stern from Sports Business Journal. Stern posted to social media:
“JR Motorsports says it has a Daytona related announcement coming tomorrow afternoon, suggesting the team may be preparing to be part of entry for next month’s Daytona 500.”

The potential entry into the Daytona 500 would be a huge move for JR Motorsports, which is co-owned by NASCAR legends Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kelley Earnhardt Miller.
The team has been a dominant force in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, but stepping into the Cup Series is a huge leap.
While Dale Earnhardt Jr. will likely not be behind the wheel, there is a lot of speculation that Justin Allgaier, the defending champion of the Xfinity Series, could drive JR Motorsports’ car in this iconic race.
JR Motorsports has built a strong foundation since its inception in 1998 when it began as a marketing arm for Dale Earnhardt Inc. before evolving into a formidable racing entity in its own right.
With its headquarters in Mooresville, North Carolina, the team has recorded over 90 race victories and secured three championships in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
Justin Allgaier, driving the No. 7 Chevrolet Camaro with numerous wins and top-10 finishes, is well-positioned for this transition.
His recent contract extension with the team until 2026 keeps him at the heart of JR Motorsports and could signal his involvement in their Cup Series efforts.
However, entering the Daytona 500 is not without its hurdles. The race in 2025 is expected to see at least 10 or more open teams battling for a limited number of slots.
