Paul Feig, A Simple Favor 2 director and menswear fashion icon, has publicly denounced a viral post on X claiming that Amazon Studios had totally abandoned the upcoming film in the wake of the Blake Lively / Justin Baldoni blood feud.
On Friday morning, a post by an X “premium” user @Oflululemon alleged the Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick untitled thriller sequel is now toast.
The multi-post thread alleged that Amazon permanently pulled the movie due to Blake Lively’s sexual harrassment lawsuit against Justin Baldoni, rumored hostility between Lively and co-star Anna Kendrick, and Lively’s refusal to promote the movie. Despite the dubious sourcing, the series of tweets (xeets?) managed to rack up north of four million views in less than 24 hours.
Director Paul Feig clapped back later that night, with a short and sweet post denying the rumor:
This is total BS. Sorry. The movie is finished and coming out soon. Don’t believe anything you read on social media these days. https://t.co/UDkWZzbIvp

When the online agitator went after Feig again, citing how there is not yet a release date for the movie, the unfailingly polite Feig put out another PSA, gently educating social audiences on the business of filmmaking.
My friend, it’s called post production, which generally takes over half a year at least when you factor in editing, scoring, special effects, sound mixing, close captioning and all the technical quality control that has to be done. Our post schedule always had us finishing… https://t.co/tJWjadZxsA

Though there has been no response from Amazon MGM Studios, Feig seems confident the black comedy crime sequel will hit our screens in the coming months.
Feig told Decider‘s Anna Menta last summer that he “would love it” if A Simple Favor 2 got a theatrical release, though the sequel to 2018’s A Simple Favor would probably head straight to streaming.
In the same interview, the director promised a “bananas” storyline, stating, “This one’s delicious again, but it’s also bananas. It’s very beautiful, too, because it takes place in Italy. But it’s as delicious as the first one, and a little more nuts.”
Blake Lively, Anna Kendrick and Henry Golding are set to reprise their roles. New cast members include Allison Janney and Michele Morrone.
With the rumors set to rest, look for A Simple Favor 2 to be released sometime in 2025.
A Simple Favor is available to stream on Netflix now.
