Lenovo’s New Super-Powered ‘Legion Tab Gen 3’ Tablet May Just Redefine Mobile Gaming

Lenovo just launched a super-powered gaming tablet at CES 2025, one that’s so souped-up it may just redefine what gamers come to expect from a mobile gaming experience.

The Legion Tab Gen 3 gaming tablet from Lenovo features an 8.8-inch 2.5K display with an impressive 165 Hz refresh rate for ultra-smooth gaming at high frame rates. It’s thin and lightweight whilst being sturdy and strong, with a body constructed entirely from metal that measures 7.79mm thin and weighs just 0.77lbs (350g).

The device is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform processor, one of the most capable CPUs currently available for Android mobile devices – in fact, according to benchmarking website Versus, the Snapdragon chipset even outperforms the A18 Pro, Apple’s current flagship mobile processor found in the latest iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models. In opting to use Snapdragon 8 Gen, users of Lenovo’s new tablet can expect unrivalled mobile gaming performance such as buttery smooth frames rates as high as 165 FPS. But the chipset also supports advanced ray tracing – a technique within 3D computer graphics models light – meaning users can also expect to see some of the best graphics possible on a mobile platform, with ultra-realistic lighting and shadows.

Other technical specifications worth noting include 12GB of speedy LPDDR5X RAM, 256GB of internal storage and a huge 6550mAh battery – the tablet also supports bypass charging which means, when plugged in for power, it will not charge the battery, something that helps to maintain the battery’s health . In terms of sound, the Legion Tab Gen 3 features dual Dolby Atmos speakers for an immersive experience, as well as two onboard microphones. As you’d expect, the tablet also has both front and rear cameras.

“What’s the point of all this power?” you ask. Well, in some ways it could be considered a little bit overkill at this current point in time – there isn’t an Android game out there that the Legion Tab Gen 3 couldn’t run perfectly at the highest possible settings with relative ease. But when it comes to Android, you’re not just limited to games developed for Android – emulation is huge on the platform and having such processing power opens up many possibilities in regards to this. For example, you can emulate Windows and play full-blown PC games on an Android mobile device, play PS2, and even take your GameCube or Wii with you wherever you go – all of these are examples of Android emulators that require significant processing power to run well, and a tablet like the new Legion Tab Gen 3 is the perfect devices for them.

As we’ve seen over the past few years, the gaming industry is moving further towards a focus on gaming on-the-go, with gaming handhelds seeing a huge resurgence in recent years and cloud based services, like Xbox Cloud, available on phones.

Our guess is this: the more impressive and capable the hardware becomes, the more gamers will gravitate towards it. And the more this happens, the more games developers will focus on creating games for mobile platforms.

The Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 3 is available now priced at $499.99.
