A tiny, yet authoritative, cat has left the internet in stitches after showing off her guarding skills against five large dogs.
In a video posted by user @coppersmom16 on TikTok, five dogs, each weighing between 60 and 90 pounds, were caught on camera hesitating to descend a staircase where Nala, a formidable gray tabby cat, stood guard.
The 19-second clip has been viewed more than 2.3 million times as the dogs’ reluctance to pass the small feline left people in stitches.
Yes this cat rules the house. Five large dogs ranging from 60lbs and 90lbs wouldn’t go downstairs due to the gatekeeper. Nala is something else! She will always be perfect in her daddy’s eyes though! @Justin Sinclair790 #catdogstory #dogsoftiktok #catsoftiktok #badcatsoftiktok
While the five large dogs try their best to pass, Nala makes her feelings clear, body language telling the pups that they’re not going anywhere.
The caption read: “Yes this cat rules the house. Five large dogs ranging from 60lbs and 90lbs wouldn’t go downstairs due to the gatekeeper. Nala is something else!”
As views racked up, commenters shared their reactions.
“That’s the bouncer! She’s just doing her job,” Paige said.
While viewer Alicia Hughes wrote: “It’s always the grey tabbies with the most authority. My dogs are also terrified of mine lmao.”
“Yup, my 8-month-old kitten rules the stairs hahaha. My pitbull says absolutely not, she’ll hurt me,” said Lexy.
Meanwhile some viewers said they could see where the dogs were coming from. “I mean fair, as a vet tech, I am also wary of cats that give spicy signals,” Nikkihoopercampos wrote.
While Lefthandedplumber said: “As a human, I wouldn’t have gone down either.”
This isn’t the first time a cat proven themselves to be in charge around dogs, like the German Shepherd dog scared to pass a cat on the stairs, or the 50-pound dog who eventually built up the courage to walk past a feline sibling.
Can Cats and Dogs Be Friends?
While the old stereotype suggests that cats and dogs don’t get along, a 2020 study by researchers at the University of Perugia, Italy, looked at the relationship between cats and dogs. Questionnaires collected from 1,270 people owning both dogs and cats were analyzed and found that over 62 percent of dogs and cats play together and 68 percent even share naps.
Despite their differences in sociability and communication styles, cats and dogs often find ways to coexist harmoniously. Cats, often known for a so-called “spicy” demeanor, tend to assert boundaries, as demonstrated by Nala’s unshakable confidence in the viral clip.
