British actor Lucy Davis said she has “incurable” breast cancer that has spread to her bones, urging others to “get everything checked out” in a post on social media.
Davis, 53, who starred in the British version of workplace comedy “The Office,” as well as “Shaun of the Dead” and “Wonder Woman,” said she was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer 18 months ago that has since spread to her spine, right hip and ribs.
“The cancer is incurable, and too late for chemo,” she wrote, urging others not to ignore any unusual signs. “The initial lump that I felt, wasn’t a ‘lump’ as such; rather a kind of hard spot. Really tiny. I almost didn’t bother getting it checked. So I guess I’m saying don’t ignore anything — get everything checked out,” she wrote.
She said she is now trying to live her life in “as fun a way as I possibly can” and had learned a lot from her diagnosis. “There’s nothing that will make you feel more unwell than being treated as if you’re unwell,” she wrote. “I’m not scared of whatever comes next. I’m at peace with it.”
Davis said she would continue her animal rights work and would like to keep acting, “one of the biggest joys in my life.”
