The Toronto Blue Jays know they need to add some offense this offseason.
While most of the focus has been on working to address pitching, the Blue Jays know the lineup needs some upgrades. One controllable outfielder would give them the opportunity to do so at a reasonable price.
Taylor Ward is on the trade block, and the Blue Jays are in need of an outfielder to play in left field with Daulton Varsho in center field and George Springer in right field.
Ward is under team control for 2025 and 2026, so the Blue Jays would have him for two seasons. He’s set to make just under $9 million in 2025, but he will get a pay raise in 2026.
Here is a potential deal that could send Ward to Toronto:
- Toronto Blue Jays Acquire: OF Taylor Ward
- Los Angeles Angels Acquire: 3B/OF Charles McAdoo (Blue Jays No. 9 prospect), RHP Landen Maroudis (Blue Jays No. 14 prospect)
This swap would provide the Angels with two of the Blue Jays’ top 15 prospects. McAdoo is a player who has some pop in his bat and versatile in the field. Maroudis is a young pitcher whose fastball tops out at 95. That velocity currently projects him to be more of a reliever, but there’s room for him to grow at just 20 years old.
The Blue Jays have to show they’re not afraid to deal some prospects and build a contender. This move could be a step in the right direction to get Vladimir Guerrero to sign an extension and prevent him from hitting free agency.
