A callous hit-and-run driver fatally struck an elderly man on Long Island Wednesday night – then dragged the dying victim to the side of the road before taking off, authorities said.
Jeffrey Frank, 74, was crossing Broadway near the Everit Avenue intersection in Hewlett just after 10 p.m. when he was struck by a dark-colored SUV, according to Nassau County Police.
Witnesses reported that the motorist then got out of his car and hauled the victim out of the path of traffic on the roadway, cops said.
Then he got back into his car and took off, police said.
Frank was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, cops said.
The fleeing driver had not been caught by Thursday evening.
