This is Taylor Swift’s place, she makes the rules—especially on her 35th birthday.
As new photos come out from the pop star’s Eras Tour-themed birthday party, Swift appears to be the only one not dressed up as one of her album eras. Instead of wearing one of her tour’s tinsel jackets or bedazzled bodysuits, the singer opted for a black knit Balmain halter dress, which retails for $4,290 and features a strip of sparkling rhinestones with silver clasp and zipper details.
Though Taylor Swift is typically a gold jewelry girl through and through (just ask Travis Kelce), she kept the rest of her look minimal, matching the sparkling rhinestone details on the dress with just a red-beaded friendship bracelet and a dangling pair of $36,000 De Beer’s diamond earrings, per Swift style expert Sarah Chapelle. Best believe she’s still bejeweled, indeed.

What a way to end an era.
However, it seems Swift wasn’t concerned enough about mixing metallics to switch out the glitzy gold manicure she wore to visit patients at Children’s Mercy Hospital on December 12. For that occasion, her green plaid skirt-and-jacket set featured gold buttons. Though we can’t say for sure, it seems Swift kept the shiny gold manicure in place.
While old-school fashion rules decry mixing gold and silver in one look, mixed-metal jewelry became a major trend in 2024. Still, Swift is not known for concerning herself with trends—and it’s not like her friendship bracelet particularly matched the look either.

With friendship bracelets scattered on tables for attendees to grab and trade, Swift’s appears to spell out “LOVER,” the title of an album largely believed to have been written about her ex-boyfriend, Joe Alwyn. Perhaps the album holds new meaning for Swift—or she was having too much fun to give the bracelet much thought…Just like she probably couldn’t be bothered switching her entire manicure to avoid an outdated fashion taboo.
Still, there are many Swifties who will probably suggest these choices were deliberate. After all, black and gold are Reputation colors. Personally, that seems like a stretch, especially if the surprise party rumors are true. You can hardly expect Swift to leave sartorial bread crumbs when she didn’t even know there’d be cameras present, can you?
Then again…what if I told you she’s a mastermind?
