90 Day Fiancé star David Murphey‘s cause of death has been revealed after the reality alum died at age 66 on Dec. 11. Murphey died “from heart-related problems — including cardiac arrhythmia and hypertensive cardiovascular disease,” per TMZ.
The outlet reports that a Clark County, Nevada spokesperson confirmed Murphey’s cause of death by natural causes. The news comes one day after his family shared his passing on social media.
Sources also told TMZ on Wednesday (Dec. 18) that Murphey had been battling liver cancer since being diagnosed over a year ago, and had been “facing a number of other health issues, too.”
The outlet reported that Murphey had “undergone over 13 surgeries” in the past year, and had been scheduled for an additional surgery prior to his death.
His relatives said in their statement on Instagram that Murphey died “after experiencing health issues over the last several years.”
They wrote, in part, “David was a veteran, small business owner, and software engineer. He had recently retired from the Clark County Treasurerâs office in Nevada, having also worked for H&R Block and IGT.”
Murphey starred on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days Season 4 in 2020. The season chronicled his travels to Ukraine, where he finally met up in person with his girlfriend of several years, Lana. Although the two got engaged, their relationship later ended before they walked down the aisle.
In their statement confirming his death, Murphey’s family said his time on 90 Day Fiancé “allowed him to connect with viewers, see the world, and share his experiences with his thousands of followers on Instagram,” adding, “He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and fans.”
Murphey is survived by his two sisters and his cat, Gamera. His family asks that fans wishing to help the family donate to The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas in Murphey’s name.
