TRICON Garage has revealed a big restructuring of its crew chief and competition department lineup for the 2025 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season. The organization, known for its strong competitive spirit, has laid out an overhaul that includes the assignment of new and familiar faces to key roles.
These changes mark a new phase in TRICON’s target to solidify its position in the league.
As part of this overhaul, outlined by TobyChristie.com, Jake Hampton has been appointed as the crew chief for the No. 1 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. Previously, Hampton guided Taylor Gray in the last ten races of the 2023 season. His promotion to the No. 1 team will see him lead under pressure and form a cohesive driver-team partnership.
Derek Smith’s new role as crew chief for Toni Breidinger’s No. 5 truck is noteworthy as well. Smith will be instrumental in Breidinger’s anticipated campaign for the rookie of the year, fueling her transition to a full-time role in the series after her part-time stint in 2024. His experience will be a cornerstone for Breidinger’s development and potential success in what promises to be a challenging yet exciting year.
For the No. 11 team, Scott Zipadelli continues his incumbency, teaming up once more with Corey Heim. This continuity is deemed critical for TRICON, ensuring that the team maintains its stability and competitiveness, thanks to the proven chemistry between Zipadelli and Heim. Having an established crew chief with a deep understanding of the team’s mechanics and strategy is a comforting constant amid these other changes.
Meanwhile, Jeff Hensley moves to become Tanner Gray’s crew chief for the No. 15 team in 2025. Hensley’s extensive experience is expected to revitalize Gray’s prospects in the series.
Jerame Donley rounds out the crew chief roster by taking the helm for rookie Gio Ruggiero’s No. 17 entry. Having participated in varying roles throughout the 2024 season, Donley’s broad exposure gives him the versatility needed to guide Ruggiero through the hurdles of debuting in the NASCAR Truck Series. Ruggiero, primed for his rookie year following his ARCA Menards Series East experience, pairs with Donley to craft a promising team dynamic.
These changes accompany substantial organizational changes. Jason Burdett, who served as Tanner Gray’s crew chief for the last seven races of 2024, appears to have exited TRICON Garage, signaling a broader reconfiguration within the outfit. Additionally, Matt Puccia retains his role as competition director, a tenure he has held since 2023.
The 2025 season represents the 31st edition of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, beginning on February 14 and concluding on October 31. With a total of 25 races, including a much-anticipated mix of 22 oval and three road course races, the season presents a prime opportunity for TRICON to leverage its revamped lineup to capture success.
