You learn something new every day. On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Amy Adams became flustered after host Drew Barrymore explained the true meaning of “Netflix and chill.”
The actress appeared alongside director Marielle Heller to promote their new movie Nightbitch — and at the end of their interview, Barrymore brought out three adorable puppies who were wearing questions for each of the three women on the stage.
Adams, who has a 14-year-old daughter, had to answer what she and her husband like to do once everyone has gone to bed.
“I’m a big Netflix and chill kind of gal. I like to chill,” Adams answered, before Barrymore informed her, “You know ‘chill’ means [sex].”
Confused, Adams asked, “Oh, it does? Oh, no, I said that. Oh, you guys! I think this means something I didn’t know it meant,” to which Barrymore replied, “Because we’re from the ‘80s and ‘90s when chill meant relax.”
It wasn’t too long ago that Barrymore learned this information herself. During an October 2020 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the beloved talk show host explained how she found out the true meaning of “Netflix and chill” to her virtual audience.
“I’m gonna tell you what I did last night. I did one of my favorite things in the world. I watched an episode of Friday Night Lights and I ate a giant bowl of carbs,” she said. “So, I guess last night what I can say is I did ‘Netflix and chow.’ Because I was saying that I Netflix and chilled only to find out that I didn’t know what I was talking about. Does anyone know what Netflix and chill really means?”
Like she said on today’s episode, “chilling” meant “relaxing” to anyone who grew up in the ’80s — but today’s generation has given the term an entirely new meaning.
“Well, now, it turns out that chilling is something completely different. It’s when someone comes over and you, like, do anything but chill,” she said. “So, here I’ve been bragging, like, ‘I Netflix and chilled.’ And chilling is not the same thing anymore, so I’m gonna call it Netflix and chow.”
The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
