It’s classic case of good news – bad news for fans of Noah Centineo‘s spy thriller The Recruit. The wait is finally over as Netflix has set January 30 release date for Season 2, which was delayed by the Hollywood strikes. That is more than two years after Season 1 dropped Dec. 16, 2022. However, the streamer also has confirmed that the second season of the Alexi Hawley-created drama will only consist of 6 episodes, down from 8 in Season 1.
First-look images, which you can see above and below, provide clues for the new season, which finds CIA Lawyer, Owen Hendricks (Centineo), pulled into a life-threatening espionage situation in South Korea, only to realize that the bigger threat just might be coming from inside the Agency. It picks up from last season’s cliffhanger ending that found Owen (Centineo) and Max (Laura Haddock) captured and their lives endangered.
Two photos show Owen and Nichika (Maddie Hasson) in the tense moments after she shot her mom Max. The two will likely stay in touch given the fact that Hasson was promoted to a series regular for Season 2. However, the news is not so good for Max whose fate was kept ambiguous in the finale. She is not in any of the released photos, and Haddock is not listed among retuning cast members.

“Owen’s headspace is complete chaos,” Centineo told Tudum about where the character is at the start of Season 2. “He has just witnessed Max — the former CIA asset whom he almost died multiple times trying to protect — get shot by her daughter Nichka. Owen is wondering how in the hell he is going to survive the next few seconds of his life.”
In the Season 1 premiere, Owen also will reunite with his girlfriend Hannah after he was dramatically snatched from a Prague street as he was walking to meet her.
The photos also show new series regular Teo Yoo as Jang Kyun Kim, along with several new recurring cast members.
Additionally, back by popular demand, Nathan Fillion, star of Alexi Hawley’s ABC series The Rookie, will be back reprising his Season 1 cameo as CIA Director Alton West.
In addition to Centineo, Yoo will be joining returning The Recruit serier regulars Aarti Mann, Colton Dunn, Fivel Stewart, Kristian Bruun, Kaylah Zander, Hasson, Angel Parker and Vondie Curtis-Hall. Additional key cast members include Young-Ah Kim, Felix Solis, James Purefoy, Do Hyun Shin, Sanghee Lee, Omar Maskati, Brooke Smith, Devika Bhise, Alana Hawley Purvis, Daniel Quincy Annoh, Jesse Collin and Fillion.
Hawley also serves as showrunner and executive producer with Centineo, Doug Liman, Gene Klein, David Bartis, Adam Ciralsky, Charlie Ebersol and Julian Holmes. Lionsgate Television is the studio.
“Owen rolls into this season basically screwed,” Hawley told Tudum about Season 2. “Owen knows that if he does not walk away with a win this season, his career is going to be over. He might go to prison. Depending on what people are into, they can show up this season for the big, flashy, splashy action stuff, but they can also be on a journey with this guy who’s just trying to fix something that he broke.”
