‘Come on!’ Outrage as MAGA lawmaker’s ‘fearmongering’ on CNN immediately backfires

A MAGA lawmaker outraged critics on Sunday after her interview on CNN went off the rails.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) joined CNN’s Omar Jimenez on “CNN Newsroom,” where she was asked to defend recent comments she made about Muslim Americans that some described as Islamophobic. During the interview, Jimenez forcefully pushed back on several falsehoods that Mace reiterated.

Mace’s critics responded to the interview on social media.

“I’m sorry, a Nazi who is trying to ban an entire religious community from serving in government and spewing bigoted racist rhetoric is on your show, and you’re treating them with kid gloves as if it’s a normal political disagreement? Come on!” Mehdi Hasan, founder of Zeteo News, posted on X.

“The fear mongering from my former colleagues on the right just keeps getting uglier and scarier by the day. And we’ve still got 86 days to go until Election Day. It’s only gonna get worse,” Joe Walsh, a former Republican lawmaker who now works as a Democratic pundit, posted on X.

“Republicans are saying more offensive things about El-Sayed than El-Sayed has ever said himself; the political discourse has just absorbed that MAGAland is completely bats— and so they can be as extreme as they want,” Jesse Lee, a former Biden administration communications staffer, posted on X.

“Republican bigots like Mace pretend a single Democratic senator has this power. Meanwhile, Republican Sen. John Cornyn says the entire GOP Senate majority can’t do a damn thing to rein in Trump,” Heman Mehta, a former “Jeopardy!” champion, posted on X.

“Yeah that’s stupid,” Jonah Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Dispatch, posted on X.
