A parents’ nightmare is captured via new ITV, Studiocanal and Rabbit Track series Playing Nice starring James Norton and Niamh Algar, and you can view the trailer above.
In Playing Nice, Norton and Algar are doting parents Pete and Maddie. They then discover their toddler was switched at birth in a hospital mix-up and face a horrifying dilemma. Living a waking nightmare, they are jettisoned into the world of the other couple; Miles (James McArdle) and Lucy (Jessica Brown Findlay). At first it seems all four are agreed on a solution, but it soon becomes clear that hidden motives are at play.
Based on the JP Delaney novel and adapted by Grace Ofori-Attah, Playing Nice was one of Studiocanal’s big sells at MIPCOM and comes from Norton and Kitty Kaletsky’s Banijay-backed Rabbit Track Pictures. The Happy Valley star spoke to us a few weeks back about the project, calling it “a psychological thriller, and more psychological than thriller.”

Playing Nice is produced by Studiocanal with Rabbit Track. EPs are Kaletsky, Norton and Joe Naftalin, with Isobel Carter overseeing for Studiocanal. Kate Crowe (Great Expectations, Taboo, Misfits), Ofori-Attah and author Delaney also executive produce. Nick Pitt (Black Mirror, His Dark Materials) is series producer. Directed by Kate Crowe, the 4 x 60-minute series is based on the bestselling novel. It was commissioned for ITV by Head of Drama Polly Hill, and ITV Drama Commissioner, Helen Perry.
Earlier this morning, we revealed ITV is teaming with Studiocanal on a period drama from a trio of ex-Grey’s Anatomy showrunners and Mr Bates director James Strong.
