Mary Cosby just delivered one of the most raw, honest, and heartbreaking scenes in Real Housewives history.
At the end of tonight’s episode of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Cosby finally sits down with her son Robert Jr., who hasn’t been acting like himself lately. It’s at that moment that he admits his drug problem and past suicidal thoughts to his heartbroken mother.
“Sometimes I just feel like life is, like, just chicken unseasoned. But when I get high, it’s like adding seasoning to it,” Robert Jr., 21, says after revealing he had taken a Xanax to “chill” out along with an Adderall “to balance out the Xanax.”
He tells Cosby that he started using drugs after he turned 16. While he only used the “natural stuff” at first, he began taking Xanax regularly after someone offered it to him at a party. “And then I started doing Xanax with acid. And then Molly with Xanax. Because I really liked Xanax so I’d mix it with everything,” Robert Jr. confesses.
He says the “turning point” for him was when he was taking 10 oxycodone pills at once and “couldn’t even feel it.”
“I won’t judge you. I can help you. I can try to help you, but you have to help yourself. Because I’m not gonna support it. You know I’m not,” Cosby tells her son through tears.
In her confessional, she adds, “I just feel very disappointed with myself. I feel like I let him down somewhere. I’m very aware and I do know that Robert did smoke weed. I know that he would eat edibles. But yet, I just trusted him, in my mind, thinking that’s where he would stop. And I was clearly wrong. I missed the mark.”
When Cosby warns Robert Jr. that he’ll “die” if he continues down this path, he candidly tells her that he “wanted to die at the time.”
“I just felt like a stain. I just felt like this world wasn’t for me,” he says, to which a tearful Cosby replies, “You know how that will kill me? If something ever happened to you, do you understand what would happen to me?”
Robert Jr. — who was charged with a DUI in 2022 and reportedly forced to enter rehab in recent months after testing positive for “cocaine, Fentanyl, and THC” — tells his mom that she’s the “only reason [he] didn’t kill [himself].”
“You have to know I love you more than anything, more than anything in this world. I think I love you more than Dad. Don’t ever tell Dad I said that,” Cosby says. “But you’re my friend, you’re my son, you’re my gift. God gave you to me. You’re the only thing that ever made me happy. Before I had you, I was never happy. You came and you were so real. It was everything I hoped for in a person.”
Through tears, Robert Jr. says he “just barely started being happy again,” while Cosby adds, “Please recognize it, own it, and change it. Because you can.”
