Former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has a new home in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings.
Multiple media reports say Jones became a free agent on Monday after parting ways with the Giants following a rough season.
Jones is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Vikings for the remainder of this season with a payout of $375,000, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. The football star will start in the practice squad, which would allow him to sing with another team if a starting QB position opens up.
The Vikings only had one quarterback under contract for the 2025 season but JJ McCarthy suffered a season-ending injury during a preseason game. Sam Darnold was bumped to starting QB and has led the team to a 9-2 season.

Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell was asked about Jones on Monday and remained coy about it saying, “I will say, tons of respect for Daniel Jones as a player and a person. Got to know him through the draft process years ago. I’m sure now that he’s a free agent and there’s probably a ton of leaguewide interest in him, Daniel is going to make the decision that is best for him and his career moving forward, and I’m sure he’s working through that process right now.
“I can just say that I’ve been a big fan of Daniel’s for a long time, and I hope wherever his next step takes him, it’s a good opportunity for him,” O’Connell added.
Jones was released by the New York Giants on Friday, November 22, after spending six seasons with the team.
“Daniel came to see me this morning and asked if we would release him,” Giants owner John Mara said in a statement. “We mutually agreed that would be best for him and for the team. Daniel has been a great representative of our organization, first class in every way. His handling of this situation yesterday exemplifies just that. We are all disappointed in how things have worked out. We hold Daniel in high regard and have a great appreciation for him. We wish him nothing but the best in the future.”
Jones was benched by coach Brian Daboll last week and had been dropped to QB4.
