Rapper Flavor Flav has questioned why his X (formerly Twitter) account is no longer following Henry Winkler—and he’s shared his love for the former Happy Days star in the process.
Since Elon Musk‘s acquisition of Twitter in November 2022, the social media landscape has experienced a significant shift. Users dissatisfied with changes on the platform—rebranded as X in 2023—have been exploring alternatives.
One platform people are trying is Bluesky, an app that has more than 14.5 million users globally. Flavor Flav—whose given name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr.—joined the new social media site in early November, announcing the news when he wrote: “I’m here,,, letz get this party started,!!,” Since then, he has often shared his love for the new platform—but that doesn’t mean he has stopped using X, which has 586 million monthly active users as of 2024, according to data site Demand Sage.
On November 22 the rapper took to the site owned by Musk to claim he keeps encountering a glitch that unfollows people without his permission. In a follow-up post, he asks Winkler, who starred as The Fonz in Happy Days, if he’s found his correct account on Bluesky.
Newsweek emailed a spokesperson for Musk, Flavor Flav and Winkler for comment on Monday.
“This app keeps f**** up,,, all these people I was following,,, I ain’t following them no more. who would ever ever unfollow The Fonz,??” Flavor Flav questioned.
Moments later, he shared a screenshot of Winkler’s alleged account on Bluesky. The rapper wrote in the caption: “@hwinkler4real FONZ,,, my man,,, I thought I had your number,,, dis you,??”
Even though Flavor Flav is on Bluesky, he hasn’t said he will abandon X, as he still uses the website regularly.
While the rapper and the actor haven’t publicly spoken about being friends, Flavor Flav frequently engages with other celebrities—such as Taylor Swift and Jelly Roll—on social media and in the press.
Previously, he took to X to share his support for actor and singer Selena Gomez after she spoke out against people body-shaming her online. Sharing a photo of Gomez in a black gown as well as tagging her, the Public Enemy star expressed his admiration for her “clapping back” at her detractors.
“I don’t know her personally,” Flavor Flav began his post on November 4. “But Selena Gomez is one of the STRONGEST and MOST BEAUTIFUL people inside and out. I applaud her for being so open about her health and mental health. And I applaud her even more for clapping back at haterz,,, but she shouldn’t have to.”
X users have been looking elsewhere since Musk’s involvement in the 2024 presidential campaign. Leading up to the vote, the tech mogul campaigned for Donald Trump, who went on to win the election. The president-elect eventually named Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy as leaders of the newly created advisory body, the Department of Government Efficiency.
Celebrities Bluesky counts among its users include director James Gunn, New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, model Chrissy Teigen, singer Lizzo, authors Stephen King and Hank Green, former CNN host Don Lemon, and actors Patton Oswalt, William Shatner and John Cusack.
