The Chicago White Sox are expected to trade their ace Garrett Crochet before the 2025 season gets underway. He’s at his highest trade value this offseason and the White Sox likely won’t be able to extend his contract before it expires.
More than likely, the White Sox will wait until after the top free agent pitchers sign. Once those pitchers sign, there will be a lot fewer options for teams to pick up pitchers, therefore driving up the value of Crochet by quite a bit.
ESPN’s Jesse Rogers polled a panel of 18 MLB executives and insiders, asking a variety of questions. One of the questions asked pertained to Crochet, stating, “Which team will land Garrett Crochet if the White Sox trade him this winter?”
Of the 18 experts polled, five voted for the Mets, which was the most for a single team in the poll.
The same panel of experts predicted the Mets would sign one of the big three pitching free agents, Blake Snell, Corbin Burnes, or Max Fried. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Crochet land in the Big Apple, either as a replacement for missing on those three or as a complement beside them.
The Mets are going to be very aggressive with their money as they try to sign Juan Soto and all the other top free agents. But they can look to add Crochet without having to deal out a nine-figure free agency contract.
