By the end of the practice week, it seemed as though the opposite would be true. However, after pregame evaluations, the 49ers deemed Williams healthy enough to play in the must-win divisional matchup.
The 49ers will have to play another game without a key starter. San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy will likely turn to Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey to carry the offense with Kittle out.
Williams wasn’t able to practice Friday because of an ankle injury. He was seen walking into Levi’s Stadium with a significant limp.
Kittle sustained a hamstring injury which has sidelined the Pro Bowl tight end for the divisional game. Kittle didn’t practice on Wednesday and was limited Thursday and Friday.
The 49ers waited until his pregame workout to evaluate both Kittle and Williams one last time before revealing their status, but it was speculated that Kittle would miss Sunday’s game. The good news is that Kittle’s injury isn’t considered to be very serious.
Kittle sustained the hamstring injury in Week 10 against Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he helped the 49ers secure a victory with a score. The hope is that Kittle will be ready to go for next week’s game against the Green Bay Packers.
This isn’t the first time the Pro Bowler has been sidelined because of injury this season. Kittle missed the first two games of the season with a strained groin. It marked the first time he missed a game due to injury since 2022.
Although it seems that Kittle has been injured often this season, he is regarded as one of the toughest players in the league. The 2024 season has certainly been a trying for the San Francisco squad as the team has struggled to stay healthy this year.
The 49ers began their season missing both Kittle and McCaffrey. McCaffrey made his 2024 debut only last week after dealing with Achilles tendinitis for the first half of the year.
Star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk sustained a torn ACL and MCL during the 49ers’ Week 7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. San Francisco played for several weeks missing Aiyuk and McCaffrey.
The 5-4 San Francisco squad will have to orchestrate a triumph over the Seahawks in a must-win rivalry game as the team chases a spot in the playoffs. It is crucial that the 49ers don’t drop another game in the division after two tough losses to the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams earlier this season.
The 49ers will have to continue their win streak against Seattle without Kittle, a favorite offensive weapon for Purdy.
