An elderly couple were pummeled Saturday night on a Manhattan sidewalk by a would-be robber who fled shirtless after the attack, according to cops and police sources.
A 75-year-old man and his 70-year-old girlfriend were walking on West 44st Street in midtown around 10:25 p.m. when an unknown individual tried to snatch the woman’s purse, police and sources said.
The suspect allegedly threw the woman to the ground and then tried to steal her companion’s wallet, according to cops.
He allegedly slugged the man multiple times in the face before ripping his shirt off and fleeing empty-handed.
Authorities released footage of the suspect darting through the streets following the assault.
The woman suffered a bloody nose, as well as elbow and neck pain while the man sustained serious injuries to the eye and face, the NYPD said.
Both were taken to Mount Sinai West – NYC in stable condition.
