Hospital closed after bomb threat, emergency patients diverted

A Pasadena hospital has been closed after they received a bomb threat Friday morning, police said.

The bomb threat came “from a group known to law enforcement and media,” according to CBS LA.

Police have responded to the hospital and are sweeping the building. Emergency patients are being diverted to other hospitals in the area, the outlet reported.

A hospital spokesperson confirmed to Pasadena Now that “Huntington Hospital is responding to a threat.”

“Pasadena Police Department immediately responded to our campus and are investigating,” Huntington Public Relations & Media Director Dorey Huston said.

“Our hospital is open to staff and patients, with screening protocols in place. We are working closely with our local authorities to ensure safety of our staff, patients, and employees,” they added.

Aerial footage of the hospital showed multiple police units on scene. Pasadena Now reported that police are using K-9 units to search for suspicious packages or devices. The hospital reportedly is canceling many elective procedures and routine doctor appointments.

Huntington Hospital, an affiliate of Cedars-Sinai, a not-for-profit hospital that houses 625 beds. It’s home to the only level II trauma center in the San Gabriel Valley, according to LA County.

The hospital was recently named the highest-ranked hospital in the San Gabriel Valley and the 10-best hospital in California.

The California Post reached out to the city of Pasadena for comment.
