A Manhattan woman claims she was splashed with a “scalding beverage” while a passenger aboard a flight from JFK Airport to Cairo.
Esraa Hezain, 35, is suing EgyptAir for $5 million after she suffered “burns” from a hot liquid in a “lidless cup” of tea that flew off a “defective” seat tray on Feb. 18, according to Brooklyn federal court papers.
“Almost immediately after service” of the beverage, the flight encountered “significant turbulence,” the suit says, noting that the flight crew “failed to suspend service prior to the turbulence or issue a warningof the impending turbulence.”
Hezain claims multiple seatback tray tables on the aircraft — including her own — were in a “state of disrepair,” the suit says.
Hezain’s “did not maintain a level position when deployed,” the complaint alleges.
As a result of the accident, Hezain was “seriously” and “permanently” injured.
She suffered second-degree burns to her lower abdomen, her right inner thigh and buttocks, Hezain’s attorney, Abram Bohrer, told The Post.
“For the price of a lid this didn’t have to happen,” he said.
EgyptAir did not return messages.
