Critics ridicule Vance after Trump gives him another public trashing: ‘Not that into you’

The internet had a good laugh on Thursday after President Donald Trump denied that he told donors to prepare for Vice President JD Vance to run for president in 2028.

Trump was speaking in the Oval Office after announcing his new executive order on Thursday aimed at targeting “birth tourism,” when a reporter asked Trump to clarify reports about his alleged comments.

“There is a report that you told donors that they need to get JD Vance elected in 2028,” a reporter said. “Is that your official endorsement?”

“No, no. I heard about it a little while ago, I think he’s great, but we’re way too early to even be thinking about that,” Trump said.

Social media had a quick — and hilarious — response to Trump’s remarks.

“The president says ‘we’re way too early to be thinking about that.’ He should suggest when the appropriate time is…I’m curious,” journalist Yashar Ali, a HuffPost and New York Magazine contributor, wrote on X.

“I laugh every time Trump trashes Vance publicly,” Marty Golingan, journalist and former OAN producer, wrote on X.

“Musk and Thiel need him. Who do you think got Trump to pick Vance,” attorney and prior Judge Pro Tem Tracey Gallagher wrote on X. Gallagher added, “It took 48 hours with Musk and Donald Jr. in Trump’s ear before it came down to the final half hour. Trump wanted someone else. Tech bros.”

“Yep. He’s just not that into you, JD,” Patric Reynolds, comic book artist and political commentator, wrote on Bluesky.
