The black non-scaleable fencing is all too familiar for anyone who was in the city in the wake of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, when the entire complex was surrounded by fencing.
Lower “bike rack” fences have also been put in place around the U.S. Capitol building, according to the Washington Post. The U.S. Secret Service told the Post that the enhanced security measures were part of “wide ranging” safety preparations and were not in response to a specific threat.
Some businesses near the White House have also boarded up their windows. D.C. police chief Pamela Smith said last Tuesday that no credible threats to the city had been identified.
Security has also been heightened in West Palm Beach, Florida, where Republican candidate Donald Trump is expected to host a watch party on Tuesday night.
