Last night Jimmy Kimmel boldly went where the LA Times, The Washington Post and USA Today have feared to go: The late night host of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! delivered what amounted to a 19-minute anti-endorsement for Donald Trump.
Before launching a long series of clips using Trump’s own words, Kimmel said, “Tonight’s monologue is for Republicans” and asked his viewers to send the video to the Republicans in their lives.
“Ask them to watch this whole thing as a personal favor to you,” he said, explaining that most people don’t have time to watch every Trump speech or keep up with the former president’s social media outbursts. “But this is all I have to do,” he joked.
“We are very divided,” Kimmel said, “and not just because of Donald Trump, because of people like, if I’m being honest, me. I do a lot of mocking and belittling, and it isn’t always productive…Am I biased against Donald Trump? Yes. Do I think I have good reasons for being biased against him? Yes. And I’m probably wrong, but I think when you hear some of those reasons, you might agree with me, even just a little bit.”

At one point early on, Kimmel said, “Maybe there’s a little voice in the back your head saying, ‘I might not want this guy driving the bus.’ And if you’re one of those people who think Democrats are controlling the weather or Beyoncé eats baby skin, forget it. This is not going to help at all.”
Kimmel’s monologue was loaded with video clips of Trump promising an end to Obamacare, the eating cats and dogs stuff, anti-immigrant messages and the bizarre, nonexistent practice of sex change operations in public schools. “This is an imaginary problem,” Kimmel said.
Kimmel also displayed a large wall of photographs of prominent Republicans who have turned against Trump including his vice president Mike Pence (as if “milk turned on cookies”) and “Dick F*cking Cheney!”
“Most elections are about policy,” Kimmel said. “This one is not. This one is about sanity and security and democracy.”
Kimmel ended the monologue by saying that no matter who wins, the results should be accepted and the loser “goes away.” He then shared a beer with sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez, who Kimmel pointed out was an immigrant and now an American citizen, and toasted all “fellow Americans” with “God bless America.”
