“He’s just putting out a 911 call to the American people,” said Vice President Kamala Harris today at CNN’s live town hall of recent remarks by Donald Trump’s former chief of staff General John Kelly about the GOP candidate and his fitness to return to the White House.
The remarks by Harris follow Gen. Kelly confirming previous statements attributed to him that he believes the GOP candidate “certainly falls into the general definition of fascist, for sure.” The interview by the former Homeland Security Secretary with the New York Times and the Atlantic also found Gen. Kelly chillingly revealing that Trump repeatedly praised Adolf Hitler and that he needed a military like “Hitler’s generals.”
The VP came out earlier Wednesday to briefly address the four-star General’s remarks, calling Trump’s comments “deeply troubling.” Asked tonight by Anderson Cooper in Aston, Pennsylvania if she herself believed Trump is a fascist, the vice president said without hesitation: “Yes, I do.”

As Election Day looms in 13 days, tonight’s town hall comes almost a week before the Harris campaign intends for the VP to deliver her closing argument on October 29 at the Ellipse in Washington DC next to the White House. The site was the place where Donald Trump spoke to the crowd that then went to besiege the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
After declining to do another debate on CNN, which would have been held tonight, Trump also rejected the network’s alternative: Back to back individual town halls with the candidates.
Instead, Trump headlined a town hall in Zebulon, GA this afternoon and a Turning Point rally in Duluth, GA. Tucker Carlson appeared at the latter event, describing a Trump presidency as one where “dad comes home.” He talked of “Dad” being “pissed” and being “very disappointed” in his children’s behavior and “he is going to have to let them know.”
“And when Dad gets home, you know what he says? ‘You’ve been a bad girl. You have been a bad little girl and you are getting a vigorous spanking. Right now. … It’s going to hurt you a lot more than it hurts me.”
