A Texas teacher was arrested Monday after she allegedly had an “inappropriate relationship” with a former student of hers over the summer, authorities said.
Carroll Middle School educator Angela Barnes, 45, allegedly carried out the disturbing affair with the teen boy off campus between June and July of this year, Keller Public Safety and school officials said.
Authorities launched a probe in late September and determined Barnes was having an alleged sexual relationship with the minor, according to police.
She was charged with sexual assault of a child and improper relationship between educator and student, and booked in Keller Regional Jail.
A mug shot released by jail officials shows the teacher awkwardly flashing a smile as she was booked on the sex crime charges.
Barnes was quickly placed on leave by the Carroll Independent School District after school leaders became aware of the allegations from police, according to WFAA.
“The District was made aware the alleged offense took place off-campus over the summer within the jurisdiction of the Keller Police Department,” the school system said.
“Based on the information we have received, no incidents occurred on CISD campuses. CISD is working in collaboration with Keller Police and Child Protective Services as they investigate the allegations.”
The district is located in the city of Southlake, a suburb of the Dallas area.
Keller Public Safety said at this time it doesn’t believe there are more alleged victims of Barnes.
