Silent and smirking McConnell aide buried on social media

Sen. Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) communications director Stephanie Penn faced criticism Monday after refusing to answer journalist Desirée Townsend’s questions about the Kentucky Republican’s prolonged absence and health status.

McConnell has been the subject of intense speculation since his June hospitalization.

Weeks later, reports revealed he was found unconscious at home and administered CPR, suggesting his condition was more severe than initially disclosed.

Townsend approached Penn on Monday on the Hill and asked whether it was “fair” that McConnell’s staff continued receiving payment while Kentuckians lacked representation.

Townsend also requested health updates.

Penn remained silent and smirking throughout the encounter, which was captured on video.

Critics condemned her stonewalling.

Sports journalist Adrian Dater wrote, “Look at the smug, arrogant, stupid look on the face of this woman.”

“She won’t even respond to questions about the senator. This is why people hate the system now. Zero transparency with the American taxpayer that PAYS this person’s salary.”

The progressive outlet Tennessee Holler accused, “This is the right Q. Not only is it unfair, if he’s dead or incapacitated it should be a crime. (Fraud, racketeering, etc) #MissingMitchMcconnell.”

Democratic strategist Keith Edwards criticized, “Smiling the whole time? just total contempt for voters and kentuckians.”
