A high school senior was shot and killed in an apparent murder-suicide by her older DJ boyfriend while they were on the way to her homecoming dance in Louisiana, officials said.
Dashayla Ardoin, 17, and Glenkeithan Robertson, 21, were found dead with gunshot wounds inside a car heading to Mamou just after 7 p.m. Saturday, the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
“From the investigation, this case is believed to be a murder/suicide,” the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities believe Robertson was the shooter, though they don’t yet know the motive behind the killings, Sheriff KP Gibson told PEOPLE.
They are understood to have been to have been heading to Ardoin’s homecoming dance at Mamou High School, Gibson added.
There were no other passengers in the vehicle at the time and no one else was injured, the sheriff’s office said.
In a moving tribute on Facebook, Ardoin’s high school noted they would return to class the following day “without one of our own.”
“Dashayla will always be remembered for her courage and bravery, her kind heart, and her beautiful smile. She was so very loved and will be dearly missed,” the high school wrote.
Robertson’s social media indicate he worked as a DJ.
A photo of him and Ardoin on his Instagram was captioned “Me & You Against The World.”
The case remains under investigation.
