The San Francisco 49ers have been without star running back and dual-threat offensive weapon Christian McCaffery for the start of the 2024 regular season. Initially, the team had not placed McCaffrey on injured reserve but chose to do so after Week 1.
Despite McCaffrey landing on IR, the 49ers front office was keeping his injury a bit of a secret. No one quite knew what was going on, but the injury that McCaffrey has been hit with has finally been revealed.
According to NFL insider Ari Meirov, “#49ers RB Christian McCaffrey has been dealing with bilateral Achilles tendinitis, meaning he has the tendinitis in both legs, per @MaioccoNBCS. He went to Germany to get treatment done on the injury.”
It was revealed recently that McCaffrey headed to Germany to get treatment done, but the injury had still not been clarified. Now, it appears the star running back has been suffering from bilateral Achilles tendinitis.
The hope was that McCaffrey could return after his stint on IR, but this injury might keep him sidelined for far longer. This is just speculation at this point, but having tendinitis in both legs does not sound great in terms of his timeline of return.
