Francis Bean Cobain and Riley Hawk Welcome Their First Child

Frances Bean Cobain, the daughter of Courtney Love and the late Kurt Cobain, welcomed her first child with husband Riley Hawk earlier this month. In a post to her Instagram account on Sunday, Cobain revealed that the couple’s baby boy, Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk, was born on September 17.

“Welcome to the world most beautiful son,” she captioned a carousel of black-and-white images featuring the infant’s tiny hands and feet, and one of doting new dad Hawk cuddling the baby. “We love you more than anything.”

The two-week-old has famous grandparents on both sides: Not only does Cobain come from rock royalty, but Hawk himself is the son of all-time skateboarding legend Tony Hawk.

The elder Hawk commented on his daughter-in-law’s post, “My favorite grandson!” This is his first grandchild; Tony Hawk has four children and has been married four times. The proud grandpa hasn’t shared any shots of the baby to his own social media grid, but included one of himself with the infant on his lap on his Instagram Story, followed by several shots of The Breeders, Alanis Morissette, and Pearl Jam playing at the Ohana Festival in Southern California this weekend.

Riley Hawk followed in his dad’s footsteps and is also a professional skateboarder. He and Cobain married on October 7, 2023 in a ceremony officiated by Cobain’s godfather, R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe. Cobain first confirmed her relationship with Hawk in an Instagram post marking the beginning of 2022, including Hawk as one of the things that brought her “a great amount of joy” in the preceding year. She was previously married to Isaiah Silva, from whom she finalized her contentious divorce in 2017.
