Though Prince Harry’s recent trip to New York City was a short one, he packed his schedule full of events focusing on his charity work, the Parents’ Network, the new online support group launched by his and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Foundation. Still, Harry’s most memorable experience in Manhattan might have been his opportunity to get fully in the spirit of spooky season. On September 20, Jimmy Fallon opened a 10-room haunted maze in 30 Rockefeller Center called Tonightmares, and on Thursday, The Tonight Show aired a short clip of Fallon taking Harry through the attraction, complete with a few swear words.
Another highlight was a speech at the Clinton Global Initiative’s annual meeting where Harry talked about the work that he and Meghan have already done with parents who have lost their children to online harm. Meghan wasn’t in the audience on Tuesday, having stayed behind in California with the couple’s two children, Archie and Lilibet. A source close to the duchess said she did follow along with his speech from home, and she is “extremely proud” of her husband. The source added that Harry was also very excited to join Fallon at Tonightmares.
Before entering Tonightmares, Fallon asked the prince if he is easily scared. “Not normally,” the prince replied, “but today might be different.”
With cameras mounted on their chests to catch their reactions, the pair went through the haunted rooms one after the other, and Harry had a few moments of genuine panic. Harry let out a shriek when a person in a panda suit came near him, but when Fallon asked if he’s afraid of pandas, he said, “No, I’m not!” The prince later mistook a man in a suit for Michael Bublé, the singer-songwriter who serves as a coach on The Voice, and jumped when someone in a werewolf costume came near.
But based on the reactions of the Tonightmares staff, it was clear who was really the VIP. After Harry walked through one of the final rooms, two actors in wigs and makeup were left with their mouths agape after realizing exactly who they just frightened.
