EXCLUSIVE: Following his Emmy-nominated work on the Apple series Palm Royale, director Tate Taylor looks to have found his next feature project to jump into as sources tell Deadline Taylor is set to direct the Sugar23 production The Coral Gables Christmas Extravaganza at 20th Century. Annie Mumolo and Stan Chervin rewrote the original script by Connor Hines & Cory Walls. Michael Sugar and Ashley Zalta will produce on behalf of Sugar23.
A comedy in the tones of Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids ( which Mumolo penned), film follows its protagonist, Nancy, who after being betrayed by another member of their championship-winning Christmas caroling group, she resolves to start a new caroling team to compete against them in Coral Gables, Florida’s extremely competitive and outlandish holiday contest. Mumolo is expected to also have a producing role on the pic while not confirmed sources say she may also star in the pic as well. Jillian Kay will exec produce.
The project seems like a perfect transition for Taylor who just worked with Mumolo’s Bridesmaids’ writing partner, Kristen Wiig, on the Apple comedy series Palm Royale, which earned high marks for its similar comedic tones landing Emmy noms for Wiig and Best comedey series.
