A cat named Spaghetti, who never learned to meow, has come up with his own special way to demand his owner’s attention, and the internet can’t cope with it.
In a video shared on TikTok on Thursday by @sanvicenteblvd, the orange cat can be seen reaching out for his owner, standing on his two hind legs while using one of his paws to balance his weight on the armchair, and the other one to pat him on the back.
“Spaghetti doesn’t know how to meow so he does this to get our attention,” the layover text displayed on the clip explains.
A caption shared along with the heartwarming clip says: “Turning this into a daily series. 09/11/24.”
While some cats communicate with their owners via vocalizations, others prefer doing it in different ways, patting them on the back for example, or rubbing their face against them, and that is totally normal.
While some cats are quieter than others because of their individual personality, their lack of vocalization can be for other reasons.
According to VetExplainsPets, it could be due to their breed. Some breeds, especially those like Russian Blues and Maine Coons, are known for being less vocal than others.
Cats are very sensitive creatures, and the environment around them can also impact their vocalizations.
“Cats that live in quiet, stress-free environments may be less likely to meow than cats that are exposed to loud noises or other stressors,” the website says.
However, if your cat used to meow and has only recently experienced a sudden change in vocalization, that could indicate a health issue. If you notice any changes in your cat you should get them checked at your trusted veterinarian.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 2.4 million views and 563,400 likes on the platform.
One user, Nellie Bea, commented: “No stop, we have a cat named Spaghetti who does this too! We’re filming him this weekend to post in a response!”
Biblically accurate pos said: “We also have an orange boi that doesn’t meow !!!! when he needs something he just STARES until we understood.”
Teri added: “Awww, my cat doesn’t know how to meow either and she also gives little taps but every once in a while she works up the courage to try a little meow.”
