Drew Barrymore and her beloved daytime talk show have a friend in Adam Sandler.
While speaking with moderator and CBS Mornings co-anchor Nate Burleson at The Paley Center for Media’s “An Evening with The Drew Barrymore Show“ event on Monday night (Sept. 9), Barrymore reflected on her 50 First Dates co-star’s support in The Drew Barrymore Show‘s early stages after sharing that she “was just” at his house and is “constantly texting” him.
“Do you know who was one of the biggest supporters of this gosh darn show? Adam!” she exclaimed.
Barrymore highlighted that Sandler would send her pictures of him tuning into The Drew Barrymore Show at home.
“The frame was always the TV here and his feet here,” she teased to the audience.
She continued, “His belief in this was really profound to me because there was a part of me thinking, like, am I going away from something that has been so good to me, or maybe where I should belong or be.”
In fact, Barrymore revealed that she even “flew up to Boston” to interview Sandler — whom she said was “so encouraging all the time” — for the show’s pilot and sales tape. She also cited the support of her Charlie’s Angels co-stars Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu, whom she said she still talks to “all the time.”
“These are my friends, and friends show up for each other, and doing that made me feel like you’re doing the right thing,” she said. “And I needed that from someone like him because he’s such an anchor for me professionally and personally.”
Back in April, Barrymore dished intel straight from Sandler on The Drew Barrymore Show about the status of Happy Gilmore 2, which was not announced by Netflix until the following month. On Monday, both Sandler and the streamer posted about the film officially kicking off production.
The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. Check out their website for local airtimes.
