Los Angeles | $2.495 Million
A 1961 midcentury-modern house with four bedrooms and four bathrooms, on a 0.3-acre lot
This house, on Dubois Avenue in Woodland Hills, was designed by Charles Du Bois, an architect and film-set designer with a popular Alpine-style approach to midcentury modernism. (Mr. Du Bois also designed several other houses on the street, which was named for him.) A 2024 renovation preserved original details like the double-sided brick fireplace, adding a new kitchen, bathrooms and an in-ground swimming pool and spa.
The property is about five minutes from the Commons at Calabasas, an outdoor shopping center with a sushi restaurant, a bookstore and a grocery store. Driving to Malibu through the Santa Monica Mountains takes about half an hour.
Size: 2,936 square feet
Price per square foot: $850
Indoors: Wide concrete stairs lead up from the sidewalk to the main entry, which is shaded by a roof overhang.
The front door opens into a foyer with wide-plank floors that continue in a living room with beamed ceilings, a black-painted, double-sided brick fireplace and expansive glass doors that open to the pool area. The other side of the fireplace faces a dining area with more beamed ceilings and glass doors.
Opposite the living and dining rooms is an open kitchen with custom wood cabinetry, a veined stone backsplash and countertops, an oversized center island and stainless steel appliances, including a range with a gas cooktop. A bright den with a wall of built-in cabinets and a glass door to the backyard is also in this part of the house.
Three bedrooms are off a hall extending from the foyer. The primary suite, at the far end, has a slatted-wood accent wall, a sitting area anchored by a sleek fireplace, a walk-in closet with custom shelving, sliding-glass doors that open to the pool area and a bathroom with a soaking tub that sits inside a large walk-in shower. The other two bedrooms are each large enough to hold a queen-size bed and have attached bathrooms, one with a walk-in shower and the other with a combined tub and shower.
The fourth bedroom, on the other side of the house, also has an attached full bathroom.
Outdoor space: The backyard is surrounded by trees offering privacy from the neighbors. A pergola-covered outdoor kitchen in one corner includes a barbecue and a dining area; a putting green is in the opposite corner of the yard. In between is a long swimming pool lined with custom tile. The attached garage holds two cars.
