We may never know Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It but two of the songwriters behind the catchy Only Murders In The Building tunr, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, did it tonight — adding the missing “E” to their “GOT” trophy collection with a win during Night 2 of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
Pasek, Paul, along with Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, shared the Original Music and Lyrics Emmy for their work on “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?”, performed on the show by Steve Martin.
“It’s obviously thrilling and very wild to think about,” Pasek said backstage about his and Paul’s newsly achieved EGOT status. “I think the getting to this alongside two of our musical heroes, Marc and Scott, who gave us our very first job in television is what makes it most meaningful.”
Pasek called their collaboration on OMITB “probably the most joyful that we’ve ever had in our careers on a TV show.”

Pasek and Paul won an Oscar for “City of Stars” from 2017’s La La Land. In 2017, they won the first of two Tony Awards for Dear Evan Hansen‘s original score. A year later, their Dear Evan Hansen cast album nabbed their first Grammy.
Pasek and Paul previously told Deadline that they were amazed at Martin’s ability to perform the rapid-fire song, which he nailed in a tight two-hour time window.
“It is pretty difficult to sing a patter song,” Pasek said. “We have tried to do it and failed many times.”
The other series nominated in the Original Music and Lyrics category include Girls5eva, Saturday Night Live, The Tattooist Of Auschwitz and True Detective: Night Country.
